Practical Considerations of Underground Surveying- An MSc thesis

Unbeknownst to the general population, surveying is an integral part of the mine operation; they are regarded as being the eyes of the mine through their production of plans and routine surveys across all aspects. Their expert insight into the layout of the mine and ability to carry out versatile surveying tasks leads to responsibilities in which the mine depends on. One such task is providing accurate reports of tonnages mined each month, and is done so by performing subsequent measuring up of mined areas, generating volumes based on the measurements and updating the mine’s plans. It is critical the values are accurate as the entire business model is dependent on the results.
Nathan Surveying Solutions worked in collaboration with Compass Minerals and ICL to collectively refine methods for calculation of mined tonnages and creation of mine plans. These pages act as an archive for the findings generated during this work.
